The much-awaited Sixth Pay Commission recommendations have left the IPS Officers disappointed & demoralized. The commission has denigrated the rank, scale, and promotional avenues of Indian Police Service vis-à-vis other All India and Central Services.
While earlier, the eligibility for an IAS and IPS officer for holding the post of the rank of Joint Secretary to the Government of India was 17 and 18 years respectively, the Sixth Pay Commision has reduced this criterion to 14 years for the IAS, where as retaining 18 years for IPS.
Earlier, the Director General of Police of various states, almost shared the pay band with the Chief Secretaries of the state, but in the Sixth Pay Commission they have been downgraded to the inferior Pay Band-4 (Rs 39200-67000). Though the Chief of Central Para Military Forces have been conferred the Apex Scale of Rs 80,000.
Sixth Pay Commission recommends the post of Director of the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), which was in the pay scale of Rs.22400-24500, to be upgraded to the scale of Rs.80,000 (fixed), a pay band equivalent to that of Secretary. But the Director of SVP National Police Academy has been denied the same rank & emolument.
